Behind the Music of Samarth Chawla
Samarth has been producing and composing music since 2014. He has had a variety of experience with music, including teaching, recording and producing, performance and composition. His influences are eclectic and he can be versatile. Having studied music he is well versed with the technicalities of composing, but follows his heart in order to draw out the appropriate emotions.
He started playing piano at the young age of 10, but discontinued a few years later when he moved on to guitar. After some years of playing guitar, he learned how to record himself and program instruments, allowing him to create pieces of his own. He later enrolled at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in Chennai for guitar where he was introduced to the in depth world of music production. He soon realised that specialising as a guitarist was not his path and took up modules in composition, harmony and rhythm. Having studied a semester, he quickly saw value in honing his production and piano skills and took up modules for these and bass guitar in later semesters.
He went on to teach piano, and eventually work at a studio where he got the opportunity to sit in on sessions with phenomenal composers and producers like Salvage Audio Collective, Andrew Mckay, Neel Adhikari, Amit Trivedi, Naren Chandavarkar, Sandunes, Karan Kanchan and several others. Here, along with a good network, he gained a plethora of insight into the music production and recording process, as well as several compositional techniques and hacks.
He is now a freelance music composer and producer, working on ads, shows, movies and songs. Outside of his freelance career, he finds joy in writing and releasing his own songs and music as well.
